back form cloud nine

Its been a couple of days since my last post but i've been having a great couple of days being the happiest i've been in a very long time. However the work doesn't stop and i've been back in the forge making sample of ideas for hook design and general playing around with the bar to see what else I can do to broaden my aesthetic style. Here are a few photos of some of the forging i've been doing over the past coulpe of days.

The marquettes.. Thier on the walls!!!

I am in my studio space reviewing all that i'd done this week, first i'd stuck all my wall mount marquettes on the corner wall of space so I could get a good idea of what they look like as they would be if they were the finsihed products (they look like weird alien insects crawling up the wall). As you can see i've been very busy in the workshop this week and I have learnt alot of what i'm looking for within this product and the design. I think by next week i should be able to get into the forge and start playing about with what it could visuallay look like in the bar shape.

Crazy marquette.

To get an idea of the details I wanted to put in to the design for the wall mount, when I got home I made this "Crazy marquette"  out of scarps of wire I had left over. Its chaotic and manic not really what i'm i'm looking for in that sense but from this I could deconsturct and refine the ideas of the details i'm looking for and bring some order to this chaos. This is one of the most craziest marquettes i've ever done...

There are also some other ideas for wall mounts which I will also be explorling today, I will hopefully make a break though soon and be able to start thinking about how it will look in forged bar.

Problem Solving!?

Sometimes the best way to solve a problem is to go and ask someone else and that is what i did. With the idea from Kate I took my two favourate marquettes, stuck them on a wall and asked people what they thought about them, the visual look and the function. Taking this imformation to help me design these wall mounts better. These are just some of the responses to the marquettes I got.

  • Leverage is top heavy.
  • Should be fixed closer to the hook.
  • Curve doesn't fit in with the aesthetics.
  • Abrupt end.
  • Leads the eye.
  • nice assembly and overall proportion.
Some positive and some negative feed back but all very useful. I've now got to go back to the drawing board and rethink about how i'm going to design the best wall mounts I can.

Homeward bound.

Yes its back, from the forge the microphone stand has finally made it to the H.E. centre at last. To be honest its abit weird seeing it outside the forge and in a new environment and i'm feeling nervous thats its going to be out in the big world now, but i shouldn't be. Its hopefully going to travel out of hereford  and around the UK to have its picture taken beening used, Fantastic!!

Here it is in the studio at the H.E. centre, wearing my hat.

Back to work.

Well its back to work again, and i've started thinking about my guitar stand design. I've been making a thrid scale marquette which i mostly finished but the design i had for the legs wasn't looking right and didn't fully fit in with the rest of the marquette. So i changed the design for the legs to have four points of contact with the floor and i have spent my time in the forge creating these new legs to fit the marquette. After putting it all together there was a few problems but it still works for now. I think there is still a few more "tweeks" to the design left to do however leap to the final product is close at hand.

The only thing i find that i don't like about the legs is that they look figures of people in yoga positions. however when all the pieces are connected they look like a figure of a small animal. it wasn't the intension but it works really well and looks cool too.
some leg designs i've been playing around with.
The guitar stand marquette, not quite finished but you get the idea.

The First Post....

This is my first post. haha, and i will start off by trying to post a few pictures of some relavent images of my work. my microphone stand, and some other marquettes. I will be post about my developing work, ideas and insprations. Please bare in mind this is my first Blog and i'm very new to this but i'm sure i will get the hang of this very soon.

The Microphone stand is my first major product i have completed inspired by the shape of the bar and the style i have been developing since my second year of collage. I have started designing a guitar stand which i have a third scale marquette for and guitar hooks of which i have just started small scale marquette making and drawing for. I hope you enjoy these pictures of my work, i will be posting regular updates of all my work with pictures and videos.
